So, you've just booted up Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, going through the tutorial, and now you're standing in the middle of Troskowitz, wondering how to not die a humiliating peasant's death. Fear not, because this guide will set you up with everything you need—without stealing, killing, or getting thrown in jail for sleeping in the wrong bed (yes, that's a crime here).
Step 1: Free Loot That Won’t Get You Arrested
The Scallet’s Axe (Southwest Troskowitz) First stop: a random farmhouse on the southwest edge of town. Check out the storage shed, and boom—free axe. Sure, you probably don’t meet the full stat requirements yet, but it still packs more punch than whatever toothpick of a weapon you've found so far.
Bird’s Nest with a Silver Ring (Near a Lone Tree) Head towards a big lonely tree near the road. Look up and spot a bird’s nest chilling on a branch. Use the throw-stones action, and with some luck (or frustration), you’ll knock it down. Inside? A silver ring that boosts charisma and sells for decent coins. Warning: Sometimes the nest will roll away like it’s auditioning for an action movie—good luck catching it.
Wooden Statues and Free Snacks A bit northwest of the tree, you’ll find some wooden statues and a rock with food. Free snacks, free coins—take everything.
A Mysterious Book and Some Spectacles (For That ‘Medieval Scholar’ Look) East of the statues, there’s a tree with stairs leading up to it. On a bench nearby, you’ll find a valuable book. Read it if your speech is at least level 5 for an easy skill boost. Also, there’s another bird’s nest up there—knock it down for some spectacles that make you look awkwardly intelligent while also boosting charisma.
Step 2: Skill Up While Making Money
Reading for Profit By now, you should have two books. Read them both to boost speech and thievery. If the game says you’ve read too much, nap or waste half a day before finishing.
The Cemetery Shortcut At the cemetery (southeast of Troskowitz), you’ll find another book. Read it to level up thievery, but don’t steal the spade—I'll show you where to get one for free soon.
The Free Alchemy Recipe There’s a shack with an alchemy table and a free potion recipe inside—grab it and sell it for some easy coin.
Level Up Scholarship for Free At the scribe’s house (spot 8 on the map), read the book he has lying around to quickly level up the scholarship. Then, trade with him, selling off your books and potion recipe. Remember to haggle—it boosts speech and makes you richer.
Step 3: Selling, Buying, and Gearing Up
Pawn Off Those Spectacles Head to the tailor and sell the spectacles. Henry doesn’t need them—he’s got 20/20 vision (or at least, the medieval equivalent).
Cash in That Silver Ring At the local tavern, trade the ring you found for extra coins. If the innkeeper is still mad from a bar brawl, sleep for a day or two until she calms down.
Pro-Tip: Sleep in the Right Bed There’s a free sleeping spot in a small building north of town. Do not sleep in someone else’s bed unless you enjoy being labeled a criminal.
Step 4: Shopping Spree & Combat Readiness
Potion to Boost Speech Find the apothecary and buy a Weak Fox Potion. This little drink increases speech by 3 for half a day—very useful for upcoming persuasion checks.
Shield, Bow, and Arrows At the carpenter’s shop, grab a heater shield (pick your favorite color) and a village elm bow with some arrows. Equip everything—you're officially not defenseless now.
The Wanderer’s Pouch At the general store, purchase the Wanderer’s Pouch. This lets you assign food or potions to a quick slot for use in battle. Also, consider swapping out that axe for a solid hunting sword.
Step 5: The Free Horse Hack
Find Pebbles the Horse Head southwest out of town to a small homestead. Near a delightful pile of poop, you’ll find a free spade—told you not to steal the one at the cemetery!
Snag a Dagger & Savior’s Schnapps At a nearby pond with a dock, you’ll find snacks, a dagger, and a savior’s schnapps in a picnic basket. The dagger lets you stealth kill enemies, and the schnapps is basically a medieval save point.
Get Your First Horse for Free At the horse trader’s, pop that Savior’s Schnapps (to save your progress), and then drink the Weak Fox Potion for a speech boost. Talk to the trader and select the persuasion check labeled “Be reasonable.” Congratulations! You now own Pebbles the horse.
Equip Your Horse Check your inventory for a bridle and saddle—equip them to Pebbles for stat boosts. Your new ride also doubles your carrying capacity, which means no more crawling around over-encumbered.
Step 6: What’s Next?
Now that you're geared up, here are some solid next moves:
- Combat Training: Find Tomcat to the northwest for some extra fighting skills and maybe even learn Master Strikes.
- Learn Lockpicking & Pickpocketing: Head southwest to get trained in medieval burglary.
- Blacksmith Basics: Visit the northeast blacksmith to learn to craft and potentially get a free sword.
- Find Your Dog Companion: Head north to start the doggo questline. Because who doesn’t want a loyal battle pup?
- Get Free Armor: Go north past the castle until you find a red flag near some rocks—dig up buried soldiers for armor and weapons.
Final Thoughts
Congratulations! You’re now well-equipped, reasonably wealthy, and proudly riding Pebbles without ever breaking the law (okay, maybe some grave robbing, but let’s not talk about that). Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is a tough game, but if you follow this guide, you'll have an early advantage without grinding endlessly or resorting to crime.
Good luck, and may your charisma-boosting spectacles always stay in stock!
